This is a stand alone lesson that explores the use of language in the poem ‘Brothers’ by Andrew Forster. It includes differentiation in the slides with the use of sentence starters. There is also areas for extra challenge. This lesson is targeted for mixed ability year 7 -8 students.

This is aimed at KS4 as an assist to narrative writing for GCSE. This stand alone lesson can be used as an introduction to creative writing. In the example text I have used the opening from George Orwell novel 1984. This can be substituted with your own text. This enables the learner to: Pick out evidence and themes from a text Use a stimulus to create their own piece of writing Explore the features of a dystopian text and how the writer incorperate them into their writing.

This is a quick starter game to help students to think about using the correct synonyms. This can be printed out and cut into board games for groups to do together or just as a power point. Batman vs Joker: The Joker has switched up the correct words for their synonyms, but they don’t make sense in context! Students must match the correct word to the sentences to make them sound right.
